Improvisieren : Material, Interaktion, Haltung und Musik aus soziologischer Perspektive
Diese Arbeit untersucht Improvisationsprozesse (creativity in performance) aus einer soziologischen Perspektive unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Dimensionen von Handeln, Interagieren und Wissen. Die Soziologie entwickelte in den letzten Jahren ein zunehmendes Interesse am Phänomen der Improvisation, wobei weniger die Resultate improvisatorischen Handelns im Zentrum standen, als vielmehr die Improvisationsprozesse selbst. Eine solche Fokussierung nimmt auch diese Untersuchung vor. Basierend auf der empirischen, qualitativen und vergleichenden Untersuchung von Free Jazz- und Flamenco-Praktiken sowie in Auseinandersetzung mit der bestehenden Improvisations-, Handlungs-, Interaktions- und Kreativitätsforschung wird hier ein neuartiges Modell des Improvisierens vorgeschlagen, das die diesbezüglichen Handlungs- und Interaktionsprozesse erklärt und die Anschlussfähigkeit für weitere Bereiche der künstlerischen Praxis eröffnet.
Wann und weshalb ist Improvisation kreativ?
Menschliches Handeln und Interagieren sind ohne Improvisieren nicht möglich, weil sowohl das Handeln als auch die Interaktion immer einen Grad an Kontingenz einschließen, die ex improviso bewältigt werden muss.

La contribución aborda el fenómeno de la improvisación musical desde la teoría sociológica de la acción y la interacción. Postula que la noción de acción, frecuentemente aceptada en la teoría y definida como conducta planificada o tipificada, no resulta adecuada para explicar fenómenos como los procesos de improvisación. De allí que se postule la noción de “material musical” como uno de los elementos centrales, junto con la interacción y el medio de comunicación utilizado, para explicar la improvisación. El artículo propone entender al material musical como conocimiento sedimentado que es generado, transformado y adaptado en el momento y situación de improvisar, generando así la posibilidad de explicar no solo la dimensión rutinaria de la acción e interacción improvisatorias, sino también su aspecto creativo y espontáneo.

Uncertainty as a Creative Principle in Free Jazz Improvising
A significant part of the work of orchestras that interpret composed music is aimed at optimizing the coordination of activities between different musicians by means of time-consuming rehearsals, in order to reduce the degree of contingency of their performances to a minimum and thus to remain loyal to the musical composition, whose score has already been largely defined. However, in the case of free jazz we are confronted with a phenomenon, which counteracts this pursuit of certainty because it deliberately produces uncertainty, thereby stimulating the musicians’ artistic productivity. By looking at the example of free jazz improvisation, I wish to tie two central topics in sociology into the following reflections: the structure of human action and the mutual coordination of action. Using these topics I will analyze certain aspects with regard to the contingency within a specific type of human action – improvising – and with regard to the related interactions. These aspects have received little attention in the empirical research until now.
