Zusammenfassung

The aim of this project is to investigate whether the intake of a caloric beverage influences the relationship between CNS and ANS reactivity during a massage intervention. After a fasting period of four hours, we invited healthy, adult participants to the laboratory. After the consumption of either water or a drink with glucose, participants were randomly assigned to a soft shoulder massage or a resting control group. Throughout the experiment, we simultaneously assessed cardiac vagal activity, indexed by root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD), and prefrontal activation, indexed by O2Hb concentration, via continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) and functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) recording.
