This work treats the kinetic behavior of polymeric systems on semi-macroscopic time and length scales with coarse-grained models. Especially demixing processes of binary polymer mixtures in confined<br />geometries with homogeneous and heterogeneous surfaces are examined. Two different approaches are used:<br /><br />First the systems are treated with time dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory. A numerical solution of the respective partial differential equation for the concentration field yields a possible suppression of spinodal decomposition in thin films, depending on surface properties.<br /><br />In a second step a more realistic treatment is given by models, where one polymer is described by one soft particle. The chain structure is not resolved, the polymer is described by an average monomer density for a given shape and the probability for that shape. The Gaussian chain is chosen as the underlying chain model for the soft particle model, i.e. to determine the monomer density and the shape probability. The kinetics of an ensemble of soft particles is supplied<br />by a Monte-Carlo algorithm. Static and kinetic properties of binary polymer mixtures in bulk and confined geometries are determined with<br />this model.
