In contrast to Au-n with n=2, 4, 6, O2 adsorbs atomically on Au monomer anions. For the Au monomer neutral, calculations based on density functional theory reveal that oxygen should be molecularly bound. On Au dimer and tetramer neutrals, oxygen is molecularly bound with the O O bond being less activated with respect to their anionic counterparts, suggesting that the excess electron in the anionic state plays a crucial role for the O O activation. We demonstrate that interplay between experiments on gas phase clusters and theoretical approach can be a promising strategy to unveil mechanisms of elementary steps in nanocatalysis.</dcterms:abstract> <bibo:uri rdf:resource=""/> <dc:creator>Fischer, Matthias</dc:creator> <dc:creator>Ganteför, Gerd</dc:creator> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dcterms:bibliographicCitation>First publ. in: Journal of Chemical Physics 120 (2004), 14, pp. 6510-6515</dcterms:bibliographicCitation> <dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource=""/> <dcterms:hasPart rdf:resource=""/> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="">2011-03-24T17:54:15Z</dcterms:available> <dc:contributor>Ganteför, Gerd</dc:contributor> <dc:contributor>Jena, Purusottam</dc:contributor> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dc:creator>Sun, Qiang</dc:creator> <dc:creator>Kim, Young Dok</dc:creator> <dc:contributor>Fischer, Matthias</dc:contributor> <dc:date rdf:datatype="">2011-03-24T17:54:15Z</dc:date> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource=""/> <dcterms:title>Interactions of Au cluster anions with oxygen</dcterms:title> <dspace:hasBitstream rdf:resource=""/> <dc:creator>Jena, Purusottam</dc:creator> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource=""/> <dc:rights>terms-of-use</dc:rights> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource=""/> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource=""/> <dc:contributor>Kim, Young Dok</dc:contributor> <foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://localhost:8080/jspui"/> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
