We argue that these patterns are a manifestation of technological differences across industries: firms in the "skill complementarity" industries profit from hiring workers of similar skill level, whereas firms in the "skill substitutability" industries benefit from hiring workers of different skill levels. An empirical method we devise produces a robust classification of industries into the distinct complementarity and substitutability groups. Our study unveils hitherto unnoticed technological heterogeneity between industries within the same economy, and demonstrates its importance. Specifically, we show through simulations on a simple general equilibrium model that failing to take technological heterogeneity into account results in large prediction errors.</dcterms:abstract> <foaf:homepage rdf:resource="http://localhost:8080/jspui"/> <dc:contributor>Zubanov, Nikolay</dc:contributor> <dc:rights>terms-of-use</dc:rights> <dcterms:isPartOf rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/46"/> <dc:language>eng</dc:language> <dc:creator>Zubanov, Nikolay</dc:creator> <void:sparqlEndpoint rdf:resource="http://localhost/fuseki/dspace/sparql"/> <dcterms:rights rdf:resource="https://rightsstatements.org/page/InC/1.0/"/> <dcterms:issued>2019</dcterms:issued> <dc:contributor>Stoyanov, Andrey</dc:contributor> <dcterms:available rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2020-07-20T07:53:59Z</dcterms:available> <dspace:isPartOfCollection rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/rdf/resource/123456789/46"/> <dcterms:title>Skill Complementarity in Production Technology : New Empirical Evidence and Implications</dcterms:title> <dc:date rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#dateTime">2020-07-20T07:53:59Z</dc:date> <bibo:uri rdf:resource="https://kops.uni-konstanz.de/handle/123456789/50291"/> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
